The federal and provincial governments have pledged together to pay nearly $9 billion over the next ten years for priority transit projects in Toronto. Toronto will receive $4.9 billion federal funds, while Ontario will fund 33 percent of the costs for the transit projects.

The federal and provincial transit funds will support these important transit projects: Relief Line, SmartTrack, the Scarborough Subway Extension, waterfront transit, and the Eglinton East LRT. Also, both levels of governments will allocate the funds on a per rider basis, Toronto will receive the most funds since ridership is very high in the city.
